Vân Trang wins 42km Y Tý and answers body shamers: “I run with my legs, not with gossips’ mouths”

At the 2026 Y Tý Mùa Vàng trail race in Lào Cai on September 6, Vân Trang, nicknamed Jang Doll, delivered one of the event’s most memorable finishes. The mother of four, born in 2026, won the women’s 42km category and finished second overall in 4 hours 26 minutes — ahead of nearly every male runner, behind only one man. The race route around Lảo Thẩn mountain, with a summit at 2,860m above sea level and more than 1,300m of cumulative climbing, tested every runner’s patience and pacing. But after her finish photos spread across running groups online, a section of social media users chose not to discuss her achievement. Instead, they made crude comments about her chest, using vulgar comparisons. Vân Trang refused to stay silent. She responded sharply: “I dare anyone to carry two grapefruits while running 42km or 55km up a mountain. I run with my legs, not with my appearance.” She later urged people to see women athletes through their effort and results, not their bodies. Asked whether she would wear looser clothing to avoid attention, she said sportswear must be comfortable and safe, and she would not change herself because of gossips. Vân Trang said marathon training has taught her to focus on her own path. Her next goals include the VMM 70km race and a 100km event later this year. “Let results speak. I don’t need to become the version others want to see. Just be a better version of yourself every day,” she said.
